Last Week in Review
- Last weekend our #GetAlarmedNYC team was in the Lower East Side installing free smoke alarms and promoting fire safety.
- On Sunday, Red Cross volunteers assisted several residents displaced by a fire in Mount Vernon.
- Throughout the week, Greater NY Red Cross staff continued to support the people of Louisiana devastated by historic flooding. Here is a note from Greater NY Red Crosser Stephanie Hagans currently on the ground helping.
- On Thursday, Red Cross volunteers led a workshop (Born on the Battlefield) about the Geneva Conventions and how the International Committee of the Red Cross has historically played a role in war zones.
- Last Tuesday, a Red Crescent aid worker was killed accompanying an aid convoy in Syria. Our deepest sympathies to his loved ones and to our entire humanitarian family.
- Also on Tuesday, the Red Cross took part in a panel discussion at JP Morgan Chase. The occasion was the financial institution’s Making a Difference Day.
- Following last week’s explosion in Chelsea, DNA Info posted preparedness tips and resources from the Red Cross and NYC OEM.
